Mathilde Thomas founded Caudalie with her husband Bertrand. Their story starts in Bordeaux, at the heart of the vineyards on the family estate. The rare beauty of this natural setting inspires them every day. The vine and grapes possess exceptional powers for the skin - powers which were simply waiting to be developed. "Do you know that you are throwing away treasures?" This sentence changed Mathilde's life. It marks her meeting with professor Vercauteren in 1993, during the grape harvest season in her family's vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. Professor Joseph Vercauteren is one of the world's specialists in Polyphenols. He is the director of the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy at Montpellier's University of Pharmacy in France, associated with the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research). He has been the scientific advisor of Caudalie's research centre since the creation of Caudalie.
Ever since Caudalie was created, Mathilde has maintained a strict commitment to women who use her products: to create products using the maximum amount of natural ingredients that respect the environment. In 2006, Mathilde took the decision to remove parabens from all Caudalie products. She gave this commitment a name: "Cosm'ethics", a standards charter for her and all of the teams.
To take the commitment one step further, they decided to dedicate 1% of their worldwide turnover to implementing environmental projects. As a result, from 2012, anyone who buys a Caudalie product is contributing to protecting the planet. In parallel, Caudalie also joined the "1% for the planet" association.
